Maharashtra Govt Employees Demand Swift Implementation of 8th Pay Commission, Seeking Significant Salary Hikes and Improved Benefits

Mumbai – Correspondent.

Maharashtra Government Employees Push for 8th Pay Commission Implementation

In a significant development, approximately 1.15 million Maharashtra government employees are advocating for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission in the state. This move comes after the union government approved the commission last week, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The proposed implementation is expected to burden the state exchequer by a substantial ₹20,000 crore annually. Despite this, employees are optimistic about the commission’s potential benefits.

Historically, the Maharashtra government has implemented pay commissions ahead of assembly elections. The 6th and 7th Pay Commissions were introduced in 2009 and 2019, respectively, three years after the recommended deadlines. Similarly, the state government is likely to delay the 8th Pay Commission implementation until the 2029 Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

The 8th Pay Commission aims to revise salaries, allowances, and pension benefits for central government employees, addressing rising living costs and inflation ². If implemented, the commission is expected to increase the minimum basic salary from ₹18,000 to ₹21,600, with potential benefits extending to around 1.15 million state government employees in Maharashtra.
