‘A weapon to grab the property of Muslims’, Rahul Gandhi strongly opposed the Waqf Bill

New Delhi

The Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced and debated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 02, 2025). It will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday (April 03, 2025). Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has strongly opposed it. He said that this bill is a weapon to usurp the property of Muslims. On the social media platform X, he wrote, The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is a weapon aimed at marginalizing Muslims and usurping their personal laws and property rights. This attack on the Constitution by the RSS, BJP and their allies is targeted at Muslims today, but sets a precedent for targeting other communities in the future. The Congress Party strongly opposes this law as it attacks the basic idea of India and violates Article 25, the right to religious freedom.

Mallikarjun Kharge say?

At the same time, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said about the bill, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill of the Modi government is completely unconstitutional, which undermines the right to religious freedom and seeks to bring personal laws under the control of the state. The BJP, which has long considered minorities as second-class citizens, is now targeting their properties through this bill. The Congress Party will oppose this divisive RSS/BJP agenda which is against the law of the country.

MK Stalin urged to withdraw the bill

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the withdrawal of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. He claimed that this bill would harm the interests of Muslims. Stalin said that the Constitution gives every citizen the right to follow their respective religion and it is the duty of the elected governments to maintain and protect it (right).

He said the proposed amendments to the Wakf Act, 1995 do not take into account the constitutional protections given to minorities and would “cause serious harm to the interests of the Muslim community”.
