Nasik – Waseem Raza Khan
During Ramzan, drug peddlers are taking advantage of the crowded markets in Nashik to carry out their illegal trade. Despite several peddlers being caught by the police in recent months, the business continues to thrive, with even beggars being used to sell drugs.
The old Nashik area, which falls under the Bhadrakali and Mumbai Naka police stations, has become a hotspot for drug trafficking. The iftar markets in the evening are being used as a cover for these illegal activities. Similarly, areas like Dudh Bazaar, Wadala Road, and Indira Nagar police station are also witnessing a surge in drug trafficking.
The buyers are aware of the peddlers and their hideouts, and even beggars are being used to sell drugs. The police patrol in these areas is limited to daytime and after iftar, allowing the peddlers to operate freely.
The locals are suspicious of the beggars in these areas, believing them to be involved in the drug trade. They have complained that the police are not taking adequate action, and that the drug peddlers are being allowed to operate freely.
The police must take responsibility for protecting citizens and putting an end to the drug trade. They should investigate new faces, beggars, and those living around flyovers, and work with local residents to keep a watch on crime.
