In a shocking and disturbing incident, the charred body of 23-year-old Shilpa Pandey was found in a suitcase in the Ghazipur area of Delhi early Sunday morning. The police have arrested two men, including Pandey’s paternal cousin, Amit Tiwari, in connection with the crime.
According to the police, Pandey’s body was burnt beyond recognition, but investigators were able to identify her as a woman due to her intact long hair. The police began investigating the case after receiving a PCR call at around 4:10 am informing them about a burnt body ¹.
During the investigation, the police scanned CCTV footage of the area and narrowed down cars passing by during the time the body was burnt. They zeroed in on a suspicious Hyundai Verna, which led them to Amit Tiwari and his friend Anuj Kumar, both 22 years old and residents of Khora Colony in Ghaziabad ¹.
Tiwari, a taxi driver, allegedly confessed to killing Pandey and burning her body with Kumar’s help. According to the police, Pandey had run away from her home in Surat in November and had been living with Tiwari. The two were involved in an illicit affair, and Pandey had reportedly pressured Tiwari to leave his family and live with her permanently ².
On the day of the incident, Tiwari was drunk, and he and Pandey allegedly got into an argument. Tiwari allegedly struck her with his elbow and then strangulated her. He later put her body in a suitcase, dumped the suitcase in a deserted place, and set it on fire ¹.
The police have charged Tiwari and Kumar under sections 103(1), 238, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are further investigating the case.
